Make your worksite a safer place with our durable speed limit signs
If you have vehicles on-site, speed control is absolutely essential -- whether it’s a light or heavy vehicle. Even forklift operators need speed limits to ensure the safety of every worker on-site and to protect the driver themselves. With this in mind, we manufacture a wide range of speed limit signs to offer guidance for drivers on-site.
Ranging from 15km/h to 80km/h, our signs are made to Australian road safety standards. With a white background, black text and a recognisable red ring around the speed limit, these signs are hard to miss -- we see them on Australian roads all the time.
Our signs are manufactured under strict compliance laws, ensuring your speed limit signs meet legal requirements. According to Australian law, drivers must not exceed the speed limit displayed on the speed limit sign -- there’s no question about it. Workers and motorists must follow the speed limit displayed.

What kind of work sites need speed limit signs?
There is a wide range of work sites that require speed limit signs. Essentially, any work site that has light and heavy vehicles operating on-site requires a speed limit sign. Some examples include:
- Hospitals, aged care facilities and medical centres
- Retail shopping centres where trucks need to deliver stock
- Mining sites
- Road work sites
- Construction sites
- Homemaker centres and other parking lots.
Speed limit safety signs can also be used to regulate the traffic of the general public -- for example, if road works are underway, speed limit signs can tell motorists how fast they are allowed to go in order to keep themselves, pedestrians and road workers safe. The same can be said for public spaces like parking lots, shopping centres, residential areas and more.
No matter the scenario, we have the speed signs Australian businesses and councils need to be safe. Shop speed limit signs online for fast and free shipping on orders over $100.
How to set speed limits on-site
When it comes to displaying speed limit signs in Australia, it can be difficult for business owners to set speed limits to keep workers and pedestrians safe. However, there is guidance around how to set speed limits according to the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999.
The key principle behind speed limits is that they should be established to reflect the road safety risk to motorists while maintaining the ability for people to get to their destination. There are a number of considerations including:
- Width of lanes
- Road function and use
- Roadside developments
- Road alignment, profile, length and width of lanes
- Crash profile and history
- Frequency of driveways and intersections
- The mix of traffic and the presence of vulnerable road users e.g. pedestrians, bike riders, motorcyclists.
Impact speed and fatality rates can also have a dramatic impact on the speed limit in certain areas. For some perspective:
- Impact speed of 30km/h, around 5-10% of people will die
- Impact speed of 40km/h, around 25-40% of people will die
- Impact speed of 50km/h, around 70-80% of people will die
- Impact speed of 60km/h, around 100% of people will die
With this in mind, speed limit recommendations tend to change all the time. It is important to keep up to date with law changes in your state -- however, for work sites and smaller areas, 15km/h is recommended to ensure the safety of pedestrians and reduce fatality rates. In local traffic areas with high pedestrian activity, 30km/h or 40km/h local traffic zone signs are recommended (e.g. school zones).
For more information about traffic control on-site, see the NSW Government’s guide to traffic control.
Durable speed limit sign materials
Because we print and manufacture our speed limit signs here in Paxton, New South Wales, we are able to offer a wide range of durable materials to suit the work-site or environmental factors in your specific area.
We offer:
- Aluminium -- great for outdoor use. Aluminium signs are both rust-proof and waterproof which is why they are often used for street and road signage. Aluminium will last many years without breaking down or failing, making it an excellent choice for mine signs.
- Colorbond Steel -- proven durability and longevity. Colorbond Steel has been tried and tested in harsh Australian weather conditions from rain to hail, snow and high heat. Thanks to the tough steel, the colour will not fade and the signs will not suffer under harsh working or environmental conditions.
- Decal -- known for resistance and durability. Decal is a combination of vinyl and strong adhesives. Decal can withstand even the harshest of work environments and conditions and are resistant to chemicals, humidity and other environmental factors. Ideal for use outdoors.
- Hi impact poly -- one of the most common polymers worldwide. Hi impact poly has a glass-like texture and is highly cost-effective if you’re looking to keep costs down.
When shopping for speed limit signs online, simply select the material you prefer and we’ll print custom signs based on your selection. We’ll also throw in a free laminate coating to ensure the longevity of your road safety signs.
Other traffic signs
If speed is no longer an issue on-site, we also offer basic traffic signs to ensure motorists follow the road rules -- as well as the speed limit. Our collection of traffic signs includes:
- One way (up, left and right arrows) signs
- No U-turn signs
- No right/left turn signs
- No exit signs
- Keep left/right signs
- No entry signs.
These signs are made in line with strict road safety laws in Australia and feature the standard white background with black text and in some cases, red imagery to suggest “no entry” or “no left/right turn”. These signs are impossible to miss -- we see them everywhere on Australian roads.
