Australian standards and laws linked to no entry signs

As per AS 1319:1994, prohibition signs like no entry signs are required to indicate what a person must not or should not do in a particular area. These signs are designed to stop a particular behaviour or action.

Australian road rules, for example, indicate that a driver cannot drive past a no entry sign. The maximum penalty for the driver is 20 units. The driver can only enter the area if the signs are no longer displayed or indicate when the driver can proceed.

Of course, a penalty loss is a small price to pay compared to the possible dangers or hazards beyond the no entry sign. Ignoring no entry signs can be dangerous for the driver, pedestrians, and workers in the area (if present).

No admittance signs aren’t just limited to drivers and their vehicles. Workplaces can display no admittance signs to prevent unauthorised employees or visitors from entering a restricted area, like an office or a hazardous area onsite.
